Convenor

Arthur B.W. Yong B App Sc JP

Arthur Yong works as a casual facilitator, researcher, cultural and marketing consultant. He speaks English, Mandarin, Hakka, Cantonese, Hokkien and a little Malay language. After his employment as a scientist and biochemist at the Alfred Hospital, the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, PANCH and Mercy Hospital for Women, Arthur worked in community and social work support sectors. He is an energetic, friendly, passionate, creative, innovative and committed person. He has served the Whittlesea and Darebin community for more than twenty years. Arthur volunteered for more than thirty community organisations and service providers, all of which continued on to form important community support networks. Arthur is the winner of Victorian Community History Awards 2004 in the category of Best Collaborative and Community Work. He is a winner of 2009 Multicultural Awards for Excellence in the category of Service Delivery to Multicultural Victoria Community Services.

He volunteers as a presenter and program producer of a community radio program, Chinese From The North, 88.6 Plenty Valley FM. Arthur, his co-presenters and team members provide information, entertainment and Mandarin lesson in Mandarin and English, every Friday night between 10 pm and 12 am. Arthur has actively involved as an event and festival organiser. He loves music. He is a dedicated follower of Collingwood football matches. He enjoys social networking, swimming, walking, reading, researching, project coordination, writing, movies, shopping and cooking.

Dr Jenny Martin PhD MSW BSW BA Certificate in Developmental Child Psychiatry

Jenny Martin is Associate Professor of Social Work in the Globalism and Culture and Research Institute at RMIT Institute. She has a longstanding relationship with Chinese communities of Melbourne and was commissioned to research and write the Community profile series on the health and welfare needs of the Chinese Communities of Melbourne in the late 1990s. This was followed by the publication of her book, An ordinary life in China, Malaysia and Australia in 2003. Jenny has numerous other publications on Chinese culture as well as cross cultural understandings in recent years and is often called upon for expert comment in the media on cross cultural issues and debates. Recent interviews have focused on Australia’s intake of refugees and asylum seekers, race relations, culture and racism.


Ms Lidia Argondizzo MBA, JP


Lidia has worked for State and Federal Members of parliament and has been a councillor in Local Government. She was the Mayor of Northcote in 1989.

Lidia was elected to the Upper House in the Victorian Government in 2002 and spent one term in the Upper House as the Government Whip in the Legislative Council.

In her time, Lidia has always assisted the Asian communities with Immigration, funding application, settlement issues, and many other issues that are common with new communities. Lidia has always been a friend of the Chinese Community and has always worked to assist with the many issues associated with this community.


Ken LEE TET FCPA FCIS FAICD FAIM Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting Diploma in Financial Services

Ken has a background in business, specifically in financial institutions, working in them, and creating systems and processes for their changing needs.

He is, and has been a company director, company secretary, and a general manager for numerous financial institutions, over twenty four of his forty-two years of employment. He has also spent a number of years as president of a credit union management association, currently eight years as either Treasurer or Secretary of the Military Police Association of Victoria Inc., and served an eight year term as president of the Victorian Spiritualists’ Union Inc., and is an ordained minister of that church.

Since 2002, Ken has also run his own business – Creative Links Pty Ltd, undertaking various management consulting roles and public speaking.

Ken’s aim is to help organisations to succeed – Linking People in Prosperity.


Vickie Ly B Bus (Acc)

Vickie is a specialist in the banking & finance industry, in particularly working with the businesses of the northern suburbs. Her focus is to help businesses grow and to help alleviate cash flow concerns through education and provision of finance. Vickie has a relationship with a vast network of businesses and communities. She is a strong believer in working together to achieve the 'bigger picture'.

Currently her team and she are working on migrant banking initiatives aimed at helping migrants, who are new to the country and need assistance in setting up all their banking requirements. The aim of the initiative is to streamline the banking needs of migrants and to provide them with all the necessary financial tools required to operate efficiently.


Marion Lau OAM JP Dip in Nursing Admin BHA

Marion is a Director of her own management consultancy, and with focus on aged care, ethnic aged and migrant women’s health and well-being. She provides small business counselling and mentoring. In recent time, she has provided a service to selected international students in the area of social and emotional support, as well as general mentoring and conversational English tutoring.

Marion has special interest and commitment to advocate for the principles of
Access & Equity and Social Justice and their application to migrants, especially women, children and the aged from Non-English Speaking Backgrounds (NESB).

She has spoken at many seminars, conducted workshops and lectured to student nurses and multi-disciplinary members of aged care teams on caring for patients from
NESB and the Ethnic Aged.

She is involved with many community activities. Some of her current positions include President, Chinese Health Foundation of Australia; Chair of Aged Care Policy Committee- Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria; Director of Doutta Gala Aged Care Services Inc; Director of Royal District Nursing Service Board (RDNS);
Board Member of Children’s Bioethics Centre, Royal Children’s Hospital; and
Secretary, Order of Australia Association, Victorian Branch.

Marion has been appointed an Australia Day Ambassador for 2011.


Richard Wong

Richard is a former teacher and public servant. He is a professional interpreter and translator. Richard has been involved in various community organisations for a long time. He has served in the committee of the Chinese Professional and Business Association of Victoria (CPBA) for many years. He is currently an Executive Member of the CPBA and the Features Editor of CPBA Newsletter. He is a Council Member of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Victoria (FCA). Richard serves as a Trustee of the Sir Edward Dunlop International Students Emergency Fund. In early years, he was the General Secretary of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Victoria.

Richard is a freelance writer, who contributes articles and commentaries to the media. He is a regular co-presenter of the Friday Night radio show, Chinese From The North, 88.6 Plenty Valley FM in Melbourne, Victoria.
